Watch: NC State vs. North Carolina Championship Game | ACC Basketball Classic (1987)

NC State stunned the top-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels to win the 1987 ACC Men's Basketball Tournament. UNC had averaged 91 points per game for the season but led 67-66 when NC State's Vinny Del Negro was fouled with 14 seconds left. Del Negro hit two free throws to give the Wolfpack the lead, and the Tar Heels missed two shots in the final seconds. Del Negro finished the game with 12 points, six assists, and five rebounds, and was named Tournament MVP. Chucky Brown scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. J.R. Reid was the Tar Heels leading scorer with 18 points.
