Philadelphia Eagles Will Make This Shocking NFL History In 2024
Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Typically, NFL teams don’t hand out massive contracts to two wide receivers, but the Philadelphia Eagles have broken the mold.

This offseason, the Eagles have struck lucrative long-term extensions with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, signing Brown for three years and $96 million and agreeing to a three-year, $75 million pact with Smith.

That makes Philadelphia the first club in league history to have two wide outs averaging $25 million annually at the same time, according to Reuben Frank of NBC Sports Philadelphia.

The combination of Brown and Smith is arguably the best one-two receiver tandem in football.

Philly took Smith with the 10th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, and the following year, it acquired Brown in a blockbuster draft day trade with the Tennessee Titans.

The two pass-catchers have not disappointed.

Brown has racked up over 1,400 receiving yards in each of his first two seasons with the Eagles, most recently hauling in 106 receptions for 1,456 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023.

Meanwhile, Smith is coming off of back-to-back 1,000 yard campaigns. He registered 1,196 yards in 2022, and this past year, he totaled 1,066.

“Me and Smitty, man, we work really well together,” Brown said. “And we let people decide how they want to decide (where we rank). As long as we are doing our job each and every Sunday that’s all that matters.”

Regardless of where you rank the duo of Brown and Smith, there is no question that the lethal combination terrorizes opposing secondaries.

We’ll see if Brown and Smith continue to dominate in 2024. More importantly, we’ll see if the Eagles can wash away the stench of what was a miserable back half of 2023.
